Medieval Gilt Silver Armorial Seal Ring

A substantial silver-gilt finger ring with cusped hoop, stepped shoulders with teardrop appliqués, octagonal bezel; each appliqué with hatched field and reserved blackletter 'e' on one shoulder and 'l' (or 'i') on the other; the bezel with central heater shield and reserved lion rampant motif, rim with pointillé border and enigmatic Lombardic legend 'A[.]KAIVSRAKAU'. 12.32 grams, 27.61mm overall, 20.45mm internal diameter (approximate size British S, USA 9, Europe 20, Japan 19) (1"). Very fine condition. A large wearable size.
