Ancient Roman Gold Finger ring with Cameo
Circa 1st-3rd Century AD
An extremely fine example of an Ancient Roman solid gold ring with cameo. The ring features a D-shaped hoop and a large, oval bezel, enriched by a fine gold granulation decoration. The bezel also holds a finely engraved onyx cameo, depicting a female bust, shown three quarter and modelled in high relief. The female figure is portrayed wearing a draped tunic, and with her hairstyle arranged in a low bun, following the trend set by Livia, Augustus’s wife, and later by Faustina Minor, wife of Marcus Aurelius.
An extremely beautiful and fine example.
